Fishing opportunities for 2015 have been determined in EU and outside EU waters, also for Latvia’s fishermen
On Tuesday, December 16, in Brussels, there was a discussion at the EU Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries on the new European Commission Regulation, laying down fishing opportunities for 2015 for EU Member States in EU water and outside EU waters. Latvia supported adoption of the Regulation and the total allowable catches, laid down thereof, which will be available for Latvia’s fishing vessels next year.
„I am satisfied that very late on Tuesday, after difficult discussions, lasting for two days, the Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries came to an agreement on the fishing opportunities for 2015. A timely setting of fishing opportunities will allow Latvia’s and other EU Member States’ fishermen to start fishing already from January 1, 2015. The fishing opportunities have been adopted, taking into consideration principles of the Common Fisheries Policy and socio-economic conditions in particular regions,” explains the Minister of Agriculture, Jānis Dūklavs.
