The Minister of Agriculture, Jānis Dūklavs will present priorities of Latvia’s Presidency to the European Parliament committees

The Minister of Agriculture, Jānis Dūklavs will present priorities of Latvia’s Presidency in agriculture and fisheries to the respective European Parliament committees in Brussels. The presentation at the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee (AGRI) of the European Parliament will be held on January 21, but the Fisheries Committee (PECH) will meet the Minister, Jānis Dūklavs on Thursday, January 22.

 

In the presentation to the Agricultural and Rural Development Committee (AGRI), the Minister will emphasize the necessity to strengthen competitiveness of EU agricultural products as well as simplification of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) with a view to possibly decrease the administrative burden. Furthermore, the work on Regulation on organic agriculture and Regulation on animal health as well as cooperation in other topical issues will be touched upon.

 

Whereas, at the Fisheries Committee (PECH), the major topics will be the multiannual management plan of fish resources, Regulation on landing obligation and external dimension of fishing – agreements on fishing between EU and third countries, and EU representation in negotiations with coastal States and in international organizations.
