Animal by-products are mainly obtained from slaughtering animals for human consumption, producing such animal products as dairy products, as well as liquidating fallen animal cadavers and carrying out disease control measures. A sustainable and safe utilization in different ways of a wide spectrum of animal by-products is in the best of interest of all the citizens, on condition that risks to human and animal health are reduced. Animal by-products are basically used in important sectors of production, for example, in pharmacology, animal feed production and leather industry, but new technologies allow using animal by-products or derived products in other sectors, for example, energy production.
