Control on residues of veterinary medicinal products is carried out with a view to ensure a high level of public health protection by monitoring and detecting sources of residues in animal sheds, slaughterhouses and other meat processing establishments, milk collection and processing establishments, fish farms and fish processing establishments, egg collection and packing plants, as well as preventing a further distribution of animals or animal products polluted with residues until hazards to public health have not been eliminated.
Control on residues of veterinary medicinal products in animal products is ensured by the Food and Veterinary Service in compliance with a residues control program. Laboratory diagnostics of residues of veterinary medicinal products and functions of the national reference laboratory is performed by the State scientific institute “Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR””.
A maximum admissible level of residues in animal products must not exceed the limits laid down by EU legislation.
