“Enhancement of sustainable soil resource management in agriculture” Project news

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia and the partners invite You to Norway Financial Mechanism project’s “Enhancement of substantiable land soil resource management in agriculture” international opening conference, 24th September 2021 from 10:00 to 13:00 EEST (GMT +3). The conference will be held online in ZOOM platform in English and Latvian.

The participants of the conference will be presented with three significant projects currently being implemented in the fields of environment and climate:

Norway Financial Mechanism pre-defined project “Enhancement of substantiable land soil resource management in agriculture” (E2SOILAGRI) will allow to update the information on Latvian agricultural soil and to obtain information on carbon changes in soil and greenhouse gas emission factors, characteristic for the country. The updated national soil data will be used in sustainable agricultural practices and will allow for smarter and more modern agricultural land use and management.
LIFE OrgBalt “Demonstration of climate change mitigation potential of nutrients rich organic soils in Baltic States and Finland” project will use innovative climate change mitigation measures in management of nutrient-rich organic soils to contribute to the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change Paris agreement, EU policies and national climate policy targets by reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from cropland, grassland and forest land on nutrient-rich organic soils.
LIFE GOODWATER IP “Implementation of River Basin Management Plans of Latvian towards good surface water status” project is working toward improvement of water quality. The project will improve the status of water bodies at risk in Latvia by means of the full implementation of the measures laid down in River Basin Management Plans.

The partners of the pre‑defined project “Enhancement of sustainable soil resource management in agriculture” of the Norway Grants Climate and Environment Program 2014 – 2021 “Climate change mitigation, adaptation to them and the environment” are the Ministry of Agriculture, the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, the Latvian State Forest Research Institute SILAVA, the State Plant Protection Service and the University of Latvia.

The planned project budget is EUR 1,83 million, including the Norway grant EUR 1,56 million and EUR 0,27 million - the national co-financing.
