Since May 2025, prolonged rainfall in Latvia has caused flooding of crops and plantations in many places, significantly reducing yields or completely destroying part of the harvest. This situation has caused significant losses and threatens the viability of many affected farms.

On August 5, 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia reviewed the order on the impact of this summer's devastating rains and floods on Latvia's agricultural sector and decided to declare a state of emergency in agriculture throughout Latvia until November 4, 2025.

The agricultural sector has found itself in extraordinary circumstances that threaten the survival of farms and production.
